Mishel Horta
Founder, Belonging & Bots. Twenty-plus years in organizational belonging and culture. Building AI into my own work — and teaching others how to do the same.
“I spent two decades in rooms where belonging was the ceiling — and watched AI walk in and lower it further for the people it was supposed to help most. That’s why I built this.”
What I noticed
Most of my career was spent inside large organizations — watching who got heard, who got passed over, and why the gap between what companies said about belonging and what they actually practiced was so stubbornly wide. I thought that was the hardest problem in the room.
Then AI arrived. And I watched the same gap open up faster, at scale, with higher stakes. The people who already had advocates, visibility, and confidence used AI to compound those advantages. The people who had spent years navigating systems that weren’t built for them — they got more friction, not less. That wasn’t inevitable. It was a design choice. And design choices can be changed.
The people who fall behind in AI aren’t less capable. They just didn’t get the same entry point. Belonging & Bots exists to close that gap.
What I’m building
Belonging & Bots exists for the individual — the person trying to figure out where they fit in an AI-first workplace before someone else figures it out for them. For the person doing the actual work.
The 1+7 framework came from my own practice. I built a named AI org — seven directors, each with a specific job, a skill file, and a memory of my context — and my work changed. Not because AI got smarter. Because I stopped treating it like a search engine and started treating it like a team. I’ve been teaching this framework to others and watching the same shift happen.
This site is me building in public. The courseworks, the quiz, the free guide — all of it is live, tested on my own workflow first, shared when it’s real. No hype. Empathy and evidence, every time.
The work
Twenty-plus years leading culture, belonging, and organizational development across global companies. I’ve built programs that ran in 60+ countries, led teams through mergers, managed crises with real human stakes, and spent more time than I can count figuring out how to make large systems feel human to the people inside them.
Now I bring that lens to AI — specifically to the question of what it means to belong in a workplace that’s changing faster than most organizations can manage.
